My biggest advice for all the PAO warriors out there is this: Let all the crap you encounter teach you things. Let it change you. And let yourself grow. You will be a force to be reckoned with when all is said and done :)

Thanks so much for writing a positive, yet honest blog! I am scheduled to have my PAO 12/3/18, and am seriously a bit freaked out. Just curious how you are doing now? Are you back to running?

Hi Jen! Thank you so much :) I was incredibly nervous leading up to my surgery as well. I'm doing pretty darn good considering all the sequela of PAO for me. The PAO itself was a fairly uneventful rehab after the first 6 weeks. I went back to running, hiking and skiing within the year. The hiccup between then and now was the development of avascular necrosis (which may or may not have been related to the surgery vs previous hip issues). The surgery for this came with a few complications that required yet another surgery. I am currently 1 year out from this most recent surgery and I have begun doing some light running intervals without issue. Given the complications I had and cartilage defect, though, I'm not sure that running is the best choice of exercise for me anymore. I think for the moment I am quite content with light intervals vs long distance running. Under normal circumstance (which my situation most certainly was not), most patients return to running without any problems! The surgery and rehab are quite daunting, I know, but you are going to be SO glad you did it when all is said and done!
