29 weeks post-pao

28 WEEKS POST-PAOAnd finally, the last step in the process... those big nasty screws are officially out of my hip! The timing of this surgery was a bit unfortunate (in typical Jenna fashion) because I had a big due date for my final capstone project 2 days after surgery. And surgery was super easy this time around, but then again, I think anything would be easy compared to PAO! Pain is managed very well with Rx meds and it hasn't impacted my mobility at all. In fact, I'm planning on returning to my clinical rotation tomorrow, just 2 days after surgery! I'm really interested to see if having the hardware removed has any impact on some of the muscular irritation I've been having in the front of my hip... so stay tuned! I'll keep you in the loop!
26 weeks post-paoRehab continues to progress well! I'm up to single leg plyometrics now in preparation for return to running and I haven't been experiencing nearly as much muscle pain. This week I had my 6 month (that's right 6 MONTHS since surgery!) follow up with Dr. Mei-Dan. X-rays show that all three osteotomy sites have COMPLETELY HEALED now and I have full clearance to do whatever I want to do now. Even though the bone is healed and ready, I still have some more work to go before I'm strong enough to ski or run.... but that will come in no time! Since the bone is healed I can finally get these screws removed, which have started to bother me a bit since there isn't much tissue between the skin and hip bone. Big day is Dec. 15th... and is hopefully the last time someone needs to cut into my hip. Woot woot!
